Building a Fabulous Family Dog

Alfoxton Litters - We start with a good foundation.

We might only breed once or twice a year, but take our role very seriously, each litter and every puppy we breed at Alfoxton is important. We aim to produce puppies that can become the best that they can be - for the homes they go to.

This means we need to start by breeding from stock that are of good type and are happy, healthy and with great temperament. Alfoxton breeding dogs have all had their eyes, hips and elbows cleared and they live as pets in the family home. That way we can really know and understand our dogs individual personalities.

Litters are born under our dining room and raised in our lounge room until they are ready to go to their new homes. We handle all the babies from birth thus we imprint humans into each and every one. Once the mother dog has approved, then our other dog members become involved in mentoring the new pups. Even the cats can't resist getting involved in the program.

There are crucial periods for socializing between 3 weeks & 16 weeks, therefore by the time the pups are 4 weeks old they begin to socialize, firstly around our farm and then start to travel away from home for visits. We initially take our pups out with another sibling, this helps to build their confidence when meeting new friends. Naturally our pups have the chance to meet with kids of different ages as there are always plenty of volunteers to play with pups. It doesn't take long before our pups have begun to learn the basics in life, such as 'know their name' - 'toilet training' - 'car travel' just to get them started.

Many people worry about the risk of infections for their new pup prior to their vaccinations. However, pups are born with some immunity thru their mum, if we monitor their health closely and are sensible about the animals they meet and the places they go then we greatly reduce any risk. Even so, we feel the small risk is far outweighed by the advantages to the pups physical and mental development.

With the right genetics, good health and early program of imprinting and socialising we aim to build the correct foundation.  Our pups are outgoing, robust dogs that have the motivation to learn and yet the calmness to adapt to the world at large.

Now they are ready for great people to take them on and continue to build fabulous companions.

Ngalla Tiponi - ‘Keeda’ -  Born May 2005

Hip Scores:  2:2    Elbow Scores:   1:1

Sire: Ch Mazasuka King O Pain  -  Dam: Ch Tillsun Unchain my Heart

Keeda was the first aussie to join our home and the reason we moved away from the German Shepherds and headfirst into the Aussies. She has impressed us with how willing she was to adapt to anything that was offered.

She is our beautiful cover girl but this doesn’t mean she acts like a princess. Sweet and loving she is great with kids of all ages and is always ready for any new adventure.

Keeda has already had two litters which have produced our two lovely black tri aussies (as pictured below). She has passed her lovely bright personality on to her offspring and we are very proud of the way they are fitting in and working with their new families.

Keeda only ended up having one little boy pup to Ch.Poruse Ruf Diamond CDX TD HSAs. So we will be repeating the mating when Keeda comes into season (expected perhaps in December 2011)

Alfoxton Giget - Born Nov 2007

Hip Scores:  3:2    Elbow Scores:  1:1

Sire: Sugergum Strike Force  -  Dam: Ngalla Tiponi

Giget is very striking black tri girl with an easy care gloss black coat. She is a very focused dog who loves to get down to work - around the farm she is the dog who is always watching and waiting to see if there is a new game to play.

She has a very strong aptitude to the agility work and her athletic leaps constantly amaze. Yet she is a dog who is more than happy to crash on the mat next to our daughter's bed for the night.

Giget's first litter (Alfoxton I Litter) was born in March 2010. Sire: Ch.Stonehaven's London Calling (Imp USA) They are now all up and running with their new homes some are currently training in class with us (Barker, Izzy, Brin) - Albie and Ziggy spends some of their days running on the beach at their own homes - Archie (Alfoxton Icabod Crane) is making his presence felt in the showring.

Her second litter (Alfoxton K Litter) born October 2011. Sire Ch Poruse Elite Seal CD. Have recently gone off to their new homes and three of the pups (Pilot, Armani, Patchy) have been attending our puppy classes.

Alfoxton Hagar the Horrible -  Born March 2009

Hip Scores:  2:2    Elbow Scores:  1:1

Sire:  Ch Ellagant Life OTh Party  -  Dam: Ngalla Tiponi

At home, Hagar is known as Hagar the Handsome, always attracting attention with his striking looks and amazing easy care coat. Hagar can swim in the dam and roll in the dirt and once he dries off he appears as you see in the photo here, yet he looks like he has come straight out of the saloon.

He is the latest aussie to join our home and even as a young dog he shows a great strength of character.  He particularly shines in the way he can interact with new dogs in our social classes and he a strong foundation already in his training program.

Hagar also has an inbuilt love of swimming. Always ready to display his giant leaps into the dam with an enthusiasm that makes us laugh.

September 2010 - Hagar has completed his testing for hips/elbows and eyes. All passed with flying colours.

Our next litter - Alfoxton 'L' Litter

Has just been scheduled as Alfoxton Isa Dorable (daughter of Alfoxton Giget) has just come into season and been mated to Ch.Poruse Elite Seal CD. Pups expected Mid February 2012 - She has been scanned and all looks well for a few pups.
